Long Hours.

George Smith, and lad living at Dartford, was summoned Police Constable Beare 299 R, For being asleep at Shooter's Hill Road, whilst in charge of a horse and van, at 7 o'clock in the morning of the 6th instant.

Defendants said that he was employed by Mr. Miles, fruiterer of Dartford Road and that he had been up two days and two nights. He was returning from market and did not fall asleep till after he passed the "Fox Under the Hill" in the Shooter's Hill Road.

Mr. Balguy said it was too long hours for anyone to be at work, and find defendant 5s. and cost, saying that the fine ought to be paid by the master.
