Black Horse and Harroe plaque 2026

Above photo showing a plaque, kindly sent by John Matthews, 2026. The plaque says the following:- "Black Horse and Harrow." "The name Catford comes from the place where cattle crossed the Rover Ravensbourne in Saxon times. Catford was historically part of Kent until 1889, when it was absorbed into the new London County Council.

The original pub existed on this site from at least 1700, although the present building dates from 1897 and is Catfords oldest pub. Although the full name was The Black Horse & Harrow, it often seems to have been referred to simply as "The Black Horse.""

Rebuilt in 1897.

Closed in 2018 and changed name to the "Ninth Life" in February 2019. Between May 2024 and 2025 it was known as the "Duke of Catford." Then after that closed in May 2025 for yet another renovation, it re-opened yet again under it's original name in May 2026.
