The only reference I have found so far for this pub is in the Pigot's Directory of 1828. Further research has found this account from the Maidstone Journal of 1878.

From the Maidstone Journal, 4 December 1787.

A few days ago while one Fenner, a turner, and Philpot, a carpenter, were drinking together at the sign of the "Three Compasses," at Tunbridge Wells, a quarrel arose between them, which preceded to blows. During the battle, which was severely contended for some time, the fright had too great an effect on Mrs. Beck, the landlady, that she expired, through the swift immediate and necessary means were applied for her recovery. But but what is more extraordinary, on the news of a death being carried to a Mr. Field, at Mount Ephrium, about half a mile distance, and a relation of the deceased, the shock was so great, that he died while the melancholy story was related to him.
