I have also seen reference to another "Red Lion" addressed as Watergate Street. This one also appears to have been addressed as 72 (Old) King Street in 1857, if indeed that is the same.

The pub closed in 1988 has been converted into flats.

West Kent Guardian, 16 July 1836.

Charles Godfrey was charged with obtaining under false pretences the sum of £8 12s. 5 1/2d from John Mogu a coal dealer in King-street, New Town, Deptford.

It appeared that Godfrey is a pensioner in the navy and that he gave a power of attorney to Mr Edwards of the "Red Lion" Deptford, to receive his pension he, Mr. Edwards, having let him have the money previously, and then he applied to Mr. Moyce for the same purpose and filled up a fictitious power which he gave to him, and received the sum above mentioned; when Mr. Moyce attended at the navy office to receive the money he was informed that Mr Edward had just been there before him and received it, he consequently gave him into custody.

The Magistrates finding that the offence was committed in Deptford ordered the prisoner to be taken before the Magistrates there, and he was removed immediately.
