The Jenny Wren in Sittingbourne reopens following major three-week revamp.

A popular pub and restaurant has reopened following a major three-week revamp.

The Jenny Wren, in Sittingbourne, shut on Monday, June 5, to allow the work to take place, and reopened on Monday.

It has been refurbished as part of a scheme by Marston’s Inn and Taverns, which owns the pub.

Twelve new full and part-time staff have joined the team at the Staplehurst Road restaurant, which now boasts a new grill station and an open-to-view pizza kitchen as the focal point of the main restaurant.

This means customers are able to choose from a new made-to-order grill and pizza menu alongside more traditional pub food.

On the main menu, there are 11 pizzas, ranging from the classic mozzarella and tomato to a meat feast.

For diners with food intolerances, toppings can be chosen individually and pizzas can be whole, half-and-half, reduced-size for fewer calories, or folded over to form calzones.

Non meat-eaters are also catered for at the grill with halloumi cheese, houmous and mushrooms featuring alongside heavyweight steaks, barbecue ribs and buttermilk chicken.

The Jenny Wren, which opened in February 2010, also has a new interior with the bar and dining area updated with freshly painted woodwork, eclectic furniture and designer lighting.

Pub manager Nick Roberts, who has run the venue for six years, said: “We are really excited to show our new pub off to customers, old and new.

“The pizza kitchen really adds a unique dining experience to the pub. Customers can watch as their pizza is hand-stretched and personalised to each order, making it a truly individual meal.

“I am excited to start a new chapter here.”

It is not known how much the project has cost. A Marston’s spokesman said the actual figure could not be revealed but that it was a “big investment”.

A basic pizza starts at £7.95, burgers from £5.75 and steaks from £9.95.
