PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1770-

George

Latest 1781+

Teston

I am hoping this is the correct place as the newspaper gave the location as Teason and that's the closest I can get to the village of Teston. It is also close to Barming, which was another location listed in the advert. I do not know another "George" in this area.

Not a lot know about this house at present, apart from it was mentioned, along with a lot of other public houses in an advert in the Kentish Gazette of 3 October 1770, part of which is shown below.

Kentish Gazette 23 October 1770.

Joseph Drywood, from Cranbrooke, Worsted and Yarn Maker, in Mill-Lane, Maidstone. Advertising his products, also continues that he delivers the Kentish Gazette every Tuesday & Saturday, setting out from his house or the "Bull."

While delivering the papers he calls at the following named Public-Houses, to collect parcels & orders.

The "George" at Teason, ......

Kentish Gazette, 6 January, 1781.

Last week's died at Teston, near Maidstone, Mr. John Prebble, master of the "George Inn," at that place; he has left a disconsolate widow with a large family.
