DISAPPEARANCE OF A CASH BOX.

Between the hours of four and five on Tuesday afternoon last, a rather shabbily dressed man, of medium height, and attired in a waterproof coat, and apparently about 30 years of age, called at the "Beehive" public house, Riverhead, and asked for a glass of ale. The landlord (Mr. Alfred Norman) who was the only person in the bar at the time, served the man. While the stranger stood drinking the landlord happened to go down into his cellar, and during his few minutes' absence it is stated that the man got a chair and reaching over the counter took a cash box out of the drawer (which was unlocked at the time) containing about 30s. When the landlord returned, he heard the man go out, and his suspicions being arose as to the drawer being left open, looked and saw the cash box had disappeared. He at once gave information to the police, who are making enquiries as to the whereabouts of the stranger.
