White Swan 1950

Above is from a cast (stone) 3 dimensional hand painting. Dated 1950.

It was produced by 'Flamingo products' 81 high St Gillingham. I believe it was set up post WW2 to help injured service personnel gain employment. This artwork was painted January 1950 and on the rear was hand written (at a later date) the following information.

'Mr W. Shrubsole June 1909 to June 1919.

Mr Albert E Shrubsole June 1919 to 1942.

Mrs ? L E Shrubsole November 1949 to December 1950.

Roy Shrubsole (son) born August 6th 1922 at the white swan St Peters.

Mary Williams (grand daughter) born June 20th 1937.

Kindly sent by Mark Whyman.

White Swan cafe

Above photo, July 1983, kindly sent by Stuart Giles.

The pub finally closed as such on the 1st of June 1957.

I am informed that the building was demolished in October 1983.

Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.
