Frederick John Borland

Frederick John Bolands, licensee in 1922, was born at St. Ouen, Somme, France on November 9th 1866. Educated at Abbeville College, Abbeville France, and the Yorkshire College. Leeds.
Apprenticed to Messrs Fairbairn, Naylor, Macpherson and Company Ltd. and afterwards assistant manager to Messrs Saint Freres, at Flexicourt, France.
He was well known in the photographic word as inventor of the "Scissors" Arc Lamp for projection and photographic purposes, also of the "Dot" Arc Lamp, the "Umbrella" Light Diffuser, etc. which are in use in both English and French Government Departments scientific institutions, universities, etc., and have lately been successfully applied for the cure of lupus.
