The Licensing Records of 1872 stated the premises held a Full License and was owned by Frederick and Robert Mancer of Gibraltar Place, New Road, Chatham.

 

Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

Public house and beer house information.

The following publicans and beer sellers, at Chatham, were charged, at the instances of Superintendent Everist, with keeping their houses open for the sale of beer after the legal hour of 11 o'clock at night.

Thomas Ayerst, of the "Prince of Wales," beer-house, Gillingham;

Richard Turley, of the "Saracen's Head,"

John Durling, of the "Queen Victoria,"

Thomas Cameron, of the "Ropemaker's Arms,

Charles Tassell, of the "Plough," Ordnance place, each fined 20s., and 12s. costs;

Chatham News, Saturday 16 July 1870.

Robbery at the Saracens Head, Brook.

James Bush was charged with stealing 19s. at the "Saracens Head," Brook, on the 8th inst., the property of a pensioner named Daniel Neal.

In this case the evidence went to show that the accused took up 19s. of change which had been put down for Neal at the bar of the house.

The prisoner said he was drunk, and did not know what he was doing.

Committed for trial.
