Above card issued April 1955. Sign series 5 number 37.

The one time Style and Winch public house was later sold to Frederick Leney of the Phoenix Wateringbury Brewery.

I believe the pub was still serving beers at the end of the 1980s but the building has now been demolished and houses have been built on the site.

From the Kent and Sussex Courier, 26 September, 1873.

BENENDEN.

On Friday last, at about 1 p.m., two small stacks of hay were discovered to be on fire, the property of Mr. W. Sharp, of the "Royal Oak," Idengreen. In consequence of a short supply of water, the hay was all destroyed. It is supposed that the fire was caused by children playing with lucifer matches. The property was insured.
