South Street?

Meopham

Former Prince of Wales

Above photo from the book, date unknown, Pubs of Meopham by Jim Carley. Showing the former Prince of Wales now called Cherry Hay.

Situated beyond Meopham Green the the "Prince of Wales" is now (information 2014) a private residence. It was presumably named after Queen Victoria’s first child, later King Edward VII.

This public house was built in front of an earlier public house, the “Coffin” and the license transferred from that to this pub in 1847, although looking at the licensee list it looks like Thomas Goodwin was operating as early as 1841.

From the Register of Licenses granted in the North Division of Aylesford Lath.

1872, August 23rd, To sell by retail Excisable Liquors to be consumed on the premises. The "Prince of Wales," Meopham. Owner, Rev. Alan Smith Masters Carmer. Licensee William Oliver.
