Foresters Arms 1951

Above photo, circa 1951, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Prior to 1927, the FA had been one c.200 tied houses, within the estate of Frederick Leney's Phoenix Brewery, Wateringbury. In 1927, Whitbread's took over Leney's, which continued to operate as a semi-independent subsidiary. Over the next 20 or so years though, Leney's signage was replaced and pubs like this one were liveried as Whitbread's. All change again, in 1961, when the pub was one of c.150 Leney's houses sold to Fremlin's Maidstone Brewery. The pub only spent six years "under the Elephant" as Whitbread's snapped up Fremlin's in 1967 and once again, the signwriters were kept busy.

Closed by 2019 after a disagreement between the tenant and owner regarding planned renovations, to which the tenant left and the pub closed, as yet date unknown although their Facebook page seems to have stopped in September 2015.
