Originally called “The Pye House at the sign of the Crown “and shown as
such on a map of 1765, probably got its name from fields it backed onto
Upper and Lower Pye Fields. It was situated on the west side of the main
road. Around 1866 it was pulled down and the present building was built
immediately opposite on the eastern side of the road.
Between 2008 and 2014 the pub is changed from a Beefeater pub to a Toby Carvery.

From the Bromley Record, September, 1860.
Suicide.
On Tuesday, the 14th ult., the family of ---- Wybrow, Esq., residing on Bromley
common, were thrown into a state of excitement by the sudden disappearance of
Hannah Hunt, the nurse. It appears that deceased had got herself and the child
(nearly four years of age) ready, about two o’clock, to take their usual drive,
but instead of going to the front, she went into the garden. Her long absence
caused much alarm, and a strict search was made, but it was not till about seven
o’clock in the evening that any tidings of her could be obtained; it was then
ascertained that she had drowned herself in a pond adjoining the premises.
The body having been taken out of the water, was taken to the "Crown Inn." A
surgeon was sent for, and every means were used to restore animation, but
without effect.
An inquest on the body was held on Thursday, the 16th, before C. J. Carrtar,
Esq., but the evidence adduced pointed to no motive for self-destruction. A
marked difference in her manner which was usually cheerful had been noticed by
her fellow servants, and others, of late, and at times she appeared very
depressed in spirits. The jury entertained no doubt but that she had destroyed
herself while labouring under temporary insanity, and gave their verdict
accordingly.
