I am informed that the pub was previously called the "Black Eagle," and believe it was around into the late 70s that it changed name.

Peter Moynihan tells me that  this pub was built by Bushell, Watkins & Smith Ltd just before the Second World War and was indeed named the "Black Eagle." It still had that name when transferred to Ind Coope in 1961 (listed as London Road, Halstead)
