Isabella Smith and Sarah Ladlow, charged with stealing a silver watch, a gold key, and a silver threepenny piece, value £3 10s. the property of William Laycock, at Woolwich.

On the 18th of January the prosecutor (the captain of a Hull trading vessel) was at the "Prince of Wales" public house in Woolwich, in company with prisoner and several other persons. Being of a jovial nature, and thirsty withal, he remained in the tap room from half past two to late in the evening; at that hour prosecutor was "gloriously drunk," when his fair companion, Isabella Smith, was seen by a soldier to take prosecutors watch from his fob, and hand it over to Miss Lalow, who went out with it under her apron; in about a quarter of an hour she returned - and éclaircissement (an enlightening explanation of something that has hitherto been obscure or inexplicable) took place - prisoners were taken into custody - and they were no brought up on rebut, if they could, a charge which they declared to be very wicked attack upon their character.

Guilty:- To be transported for life.
