Situated just outside the town centre and dated from 1843. The license was refused by the magistrates in September 1849, although the premises must have regained its license by 1855.

The Nine Elms had been part of the local Russell's brewery tied estate, passing to London brewers Truman's in 1930 on takeover.

The pub finally closed in 1972 and, according to the late local historian Tony Larkin, the building had subsequently been used illegally as a shoe factory and was destroyed by fire in 1983 several lives were lost in the fire.

After the fire it was demolished and the site is now occupied by residential accommodation.
