Known as the "Marquis of Granby" and also the "Granby Head" as well as simply the "Granby" in various records.

The pub can be traced back to 1528 when it was the "Flower De Luce." Around 1775 it changed name to the "Marquis of Granby" and then again in 1806 to the "Lord Nelson Hotel."

 

Also listed in High Street and at one time also at number 12 is the "Horn" between 1639 and 1769.

Gravesend Market. Wheat cheaper. This market is now kept up by the farmers agreeing all to dine at one house by rotation. This day dined at ye Marquise of Granby's.
