Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Tuesday 7 October 1890.

DARTFORD POLICE COURT. LICENSING.

On the application of Mr. Ridley, the license of the "Lullingstone Castle Hotel," Swanley Junction, was transferred from Mr. Hadley, the late landlord, to Mr. Sansom, who had been, for many years, the landlord of the "Bull Inn," Birchwood Corner.

Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Tuesday 17 March 1891.

Charge of Attempted Rape.

John Laker was charged, on remand, with this offence, at Crockenhill, on the 19th inst.

Mr. Ridley defended the prisoner.

Prosecutrix said she came from Maidstone to Crockenhill, and was married to her husband at Barming, 16 years ago last January. Her husband had gone under the name of Etheridge as well as Norton; that was because he was a lose child.

P.C. Sidders and Dr. Tucker will called on behalf of the prosecution.

For the defence John Walters, of Crockenhill, William Sims, barman at the "Lullingstone Castle Hotel," James Moss, James Dayman, Emma Coulton, mother-in-law of the prisoner, deposed to the prisoner being at "Lullingston Castle Hotel," and at home, at the time when the prosecutrix alleged the assault of being committed upon her.

The Chairman said the Court were of opinion that a jury would not convict, and dismissed the case.

This pub was called the "Mulberry Bush," from between 1920 and 1990, but either time of that name it has always been the "Lullingstone Castle Hotel.
