Cold Bath Street / 23 John Penn Street
Greenwich
Above photo, 1936. |
Above Google image, July 2017. This to be the spot of the
former pub.
Further information received from Alan Mason says the following:-
"The place changed radically
in the late 50's early 60s. Basically, John Penn Street used to be part
of Coldbath Street (formerly Bath Street) - hence a degree of confusion
as to where stuff is. The pub was located on the corner of Bennet
Street; this road was severely truncated in the early 1960s and what
remains is now Bennett Grove. At the end of Bennett Grove is a
collection of garages and it is the John Penn Street entrance to these
where the pub used to stand. Hope this helps.

From the Borough of Greenwich Free Press, 18 June 1864.
Mr. William Ward, landlord of the "Ironfounders' Arms," Cold Bath, Greenwich,
was charged on a summons with assaulting Joseph Harper, a green-grocer.
The defendant, who was said to be at Paris, did not appear; and as the
assault alleged to have taken place, was committed in Southwark, Mr. Traill
advised the complainant to apply at the Southwark Police Court.
