Above photo, 1978, kindly sent by Rory Kehoe. Formerly a Page & Overton
house, the pub pass through the hands of various breweries, as a result
of inter-war takeovers and acquisitions. Eventually becoming a tied
house, within the estate of Charrington's Anchor Brewery, London E1 the
pub was, in 1967, subsumed within the colossal Bass Charrington empire,
which boasted some 11,000 pubs all around the UK. Not long after this
photograph was taken, the pub was one of a number of Bass Charrington
pubs in Kent purchased by Shepherd Neame. |
