I also have reference to a "Half Moon and Stars" addressed in the High Street and going back to 1624.

James Edward Mansey, manager of the "Half Moon" & tenant of the "Rose in the Valley," Chatham, died November 1st, 1967.

(I have't seen any evidence that he was ever licensee of the "Rose in the Valley." Paul Skelton.)
