I have found reference to a "Defiance Fountain" in Plumstead as well, both with the address of Plunstead Road they could well be the same.

The Kentish Independent, Saturday, 10 July, 1880.

A Violent Rogue.

Christopher Hyslopp, 19, a labourer of 132, Plumstead Road, was charged with being drunk and refusing to quit the "Fountain" beer shop in the Plumstead Road, also with assaulting the landlord, Mr. John Plummer and Police Constable Hooper, 87 W.D.D.

Plummer said that a quarter past 8 o'clock prisoner came into his house and created a disturbance, and struck both him and his son, giving the latter a black eye. Prisoner knocked witness down, and was totally unmanageable. This was corroborated by prosecutor's son and the Constable.

Prisoner said the landlord struck him first.

The police proved a former charge of felony against him; and Mr. Balguy fined him 20s. or 14 days.
