From an email received 31 January 2022.

My great grandfather was Charles Thomas Neville who was the a licensed victualler at the "Fort Tavern," Sandy Hill Road, Woolwich.

He was dismissed from there by 1910. One 21 July 1910 he lived in Plumstead and Charles died in the infirmary 16 days after inflicting a knife-wound to his throat at home.

His daughter Anne said that had never threatened to take his life.

Reported in the Kentish Mercury on 29th John he had been under medical care for 2 years for bouts of depression.

A day to the incident on the 5th was upset by the death of a friend. Charles told Annie that he was sorry for what he had done. A verdict of suicide during temporary insanity was returned.

Annie his daughter had been a barmaid. Her married name was Annie Walton.

Alexandra Oliver.
