Maidstone Journal and Kentish Advertiser, Tuesday 13 May 1862.

City Bench, Rochester, Tuesday.

William Langford, landlord of the "Dark Sun," was charged by ---- Johnson on having used abusive and obscene language, on the 2nd of May.

Mr. Bassett appeared for defendant, who did not deny, but pleaded great provocation.

It seemed that the parties were neighbours, and that a bad example had been set them by their dogs, which had quarreled. Johnson whipped defendant's dog away, and the next day defendant called upon Johnson for an apology, and as he refused defendant became excited, and used the language complained of.
