Les Swaffer tell me that the "Crown and Sceptre" was probably where the boat hire place is now and ice-cream kiosk is now, the boat trips along the Medway are booked there. It is under Bishop's way which is part of the Archbishop's Palace, the place behind the little boat.

Gentleman of Maidstone, who leaves 'The Crowne and Sceptre' in Maidstone and all his four tenements with the(ir) appurtenances under the Cliffe? And also his Tenements in 'Durham Yard' in Maidstone to his son, John Mason.
