Project 2014 has been started to try and identify all the pubs that are and have ever been open in Kent. I have just Started to map out the pubs that exist or existed in Plumstead, but need local knowledge and photographs, old and current if you have any.

As the information is found or sent to me, including photographs, it will be shown here.

Thanks for your co-operation. Every email is answered and all information referenced to the supplier.

From an email received 21 November 2015.

According to my late father-in-law, his sister, Louisa and her husband Jack Darby took over the running of the Bramble Arms in Vicarage Road, Plumstead in the very early 1930's.

As far as I know it was only Mr Hitler's bombs that put a stop to it.

It was a very small pub with only one bar and was not even allowed to sell spirits. During that time Louisa's weight went up to eighteen stone, she said it was caused by the smell of the beer. Jack Darby later committed suicide.

Dave Courts.

Information from Tracey Barber tells me that the pub closed after 1968 and has subsequently been pulled down.
