Prince Albert 1960

Above picture taken from business card 1960 that also said the following:- A Charringtons House, Fully Licensed, Snacks available at all times, Music Week Ends. Mr. & Mrs. S. W. Lander, welcome you to the Prince Albert, 117, Edward Street, New Cross. SE14.

Prince Albert 1972

Above photo, 1972. From a screen grab from a film called "Hide and Seek" starring Gary Kemp. Acquired from Matt Martin.

Prince Albert darts team 1973

Above photo showing the darts team. They are collecting the Deptford Festival Trophy that they won in 1973. Holding the cup (in the white shirt) is my late stepfather Bill Worley and on the other side Ben Lakin. These blokes were a close knit bunch of mates who had known each other for years and had played for the "Lord Derby" in Woodpecker Road before we were all moved. The twins (one at each end) were called Funge and the chap half out of the picture is Bill Adams whose son Les (who provided the picture) was there along with my brother Billy Worley on the night.

From David White.

I have also seen this addressed as New Cross.

The pub was a lot bigger than the picture suggests, so John Lander informs me, as the 2 blue doors were to the Public Bar and just the corner one being used, the door to the left was the saloon bar which was the biggest bar and had a stage and further around to the right was a snug bar and off sales.

Barbara Clark tells me the following:- "Took me back a few years, mid sixties. I used to work there in the evenings after work when Stan Lander was landlord. (He was really funny and a great raconteur). Met my husband there, his dad used to play the piano, Charlie Bender. People got on the mike all the time. There was also a pianola there as well. Great family pub - happy days."
