After the closure of the "Greyhound" in 2008, the premises opened as St Peter's Restaurant, but on 12th July 2014 it is destined to open again, this time as the "Hop and Huffkin."

The Hop and Huffkin in Sandwich will open its doors for a charity music night next Thursday.

Owner Ian Linstead was inspired to host Music4Martha on May 12 because of the connection between Martha Trust, a charity that cares for people with profound disabilities in Deal and Hastings, and Tom Abrahams, a musician who often plays the pub.

He said: “The connection for us here is Tom Abrahams.

“He was one of the first musicians we had when we opened and he plays here every month.

His sister, Charlotte, lives at Martha Trust.”

The night will see Tom, a gypsy jazz guitarist, link up with his friends jazz singer Abigail Card-well, flamenco dancer Anna Harman and soul singer Nathan Allon to provide entertainment.

Staff will donate their wages on the night towards the charity.

Tickets cost £30. The New Street pub will also be serving tapas, so booking a table is recommended.

Music will be from 7pm.

To pledge your support by way of food, drink or a raffle prize, or to buy tickets, email ian@hopandhuffkin.co.uk, call 01304  448560 or pop in.

During the Covid 19 crisis of 2020, this pub was able to offer a take away service in June, possibly earlier.

However, it appears that in October 2020 it changed into a Mediterranean Restaurant and bar called the "Tan Bueno."
