Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser, Friday 30 July 1920.

Tunbridge Wells Seduction Case.

Shocking allegations.

Yesterday (Thursday), at the London Sheriff's Court, a Jury awarded £120 damages to Charles Ernest Martin, general dealer, of Cronin Road, Peckham, in an action which he brought against Albert William Noakes for the seduction of his daughter at Tunbridge Wells.

Defendant was described as the son of a licensed victualler, of Walsall.

It was stated in evidence that in August last plaintive met his daughter Lillian Marion, who is age 19, to the "Rising Sun," Tunbridge Wells, to assist her uncle in the house and bar.

While there she made the acquaintance of defendant, a soldier, who was billeted close by, and they used to go out together once a week.

One night defendant had arranged to take the girl to a theatre, but finding that they were too late, and as it was raining, he proposed that he should accompany him to his billet.

She at first refused to go, but on being assured that young men often took their girls to the billet, she agreed.

On getting there she found a house full of soldiers, and defendant, a strong man, bolted the door and committed a serious assault upon her.

A doctor stated that the girl was now suffering from disease.

It was said that she was 19 years of age, and that defendant had offered to marry her.

The father declared in Court that he would not allow his daughter to marry such a dirty scoundrel.
