The pub opened in 1867 to serve the workmen constructing the then recently-developed New Town area of Dartford. It was part of the Truman's tied estate in its latter days.

During the 1950s the landlord was Eric Sutton.

The pub closed in 1995 and has subsequently been converted to residential accommodation.

See Dartford Map 1905.
