The "Fountain" stood next door to "Ye Ancient Bell," and in 2014 was operating as Thompson holiday firm.

Darren Brockway writes the following:- The building suffered extensive damage during a major fire on 9 June 2015 in an adjacent building which took hold of this old pub quite severely, largely due to the wooden structure, to the extent that major structural repairs and rebuilding were required. The tiled facade was braced and saved, the windows then replaced to the original specifications making this one of Maidstone's remaining treasured buildings.

The "Fountain Inn" stood right next door to "Ye Ancient Bell," an inn, which closed in the 1920s. It is now (2019) used as retail for an outdoor chain and stationers however the building above has been restored (following the fire) to an original design. The fire did eventually have a positive effect on this building which removed an ugly 1970s structure that had removed the upper exterior walls.
