INNKEEPERS' LICENSES.

Saturday last was the annual licensing day for the publicans at Maidstone, when the old licenses were renewed, without complaint from the police.

There were Three applications for new licenses, namely, by Joseph Sutton, for the "Hollybush Tavern," Perryfields; by William Thomas Roffe, for the "Brewers Arms," recently opened in Wyatt-street, and by William Brewster, of the "British Queen," Sandling-road. Mr. Monckton appeared for Mr. Roffe and Mr. Brewster. The application for the "British Queen" was to stand over for another year. There being no opposition to the "Hollybush" and the "Brewer's Arms," both applications were granted.

Application for licences.

Mr. William Brewster, landlord of the "British Queen," Sandling Road applied for a licence to his house for the sale of spirits. Mr. Monckton supported the application and presented a petition signed by 47 of his neighbour's.

Not granted.

Gravesend Reporter, North Kent and South Essex Advertiser 10 April 1869.

On Friday Jesse Willett, aged 47, was admitted to the West Kent General Hospital with both bones of the right leg fractured. It appears that he had his left leg amputated three years ago, and has since walked with a wooden leg. While walking up some stone steps in the Sandling-road, near the "British Queen," Maidstone, his wooden leg slipped, throwing him to the ground and fracturing his right leg.
