Information below by Ben Levick

The "Britannia Pub" (not to be confused with the "Britannia" in modern Gillingham High Street which was originally New Brompton) moved between several locations in its lifetime. In the mid 19th century it was located in Church Street, near the corner with Pier Road. In the 1870s it moved into a terraced house in Pier Road, opposite the gasworks. The terraced house was demolished in the 1950s and the pub was rebuilt a little further along Pier Road (the location above). In the 1980s it became a wine-bar called Spatts, and then went through a series of other names including The Strand, Bar Intermission and Expressions. It closed in the early 2000s and burned down in the middle of the decade. It was then demolished and has since remained an empty plot.

The Lost Pubs Project says the pub was situated on the Pier Road it was originally known as the "Britannia" it later changed name to "Spatz" then the "Strand" and lastly was called the "Bar" just before it finally closed. I have also heard that somewhere along the line it was also called "Expressions" but as yet don't know where in the list this one fitted. Local knowledge please.
