This pub is one in the list of my "Project 2014."

As such I haven't found a picture of the pub yet, and to date have little other information. Local knowledge, further pictures, and licensee information would be appreciated.

I will be adding the historical information when I find or are sent it, but this project is a very big one, and I do not know when or where the information will come from.

All emails are answered.

From an email received 7 April 2026.

Hi,

In researching my family history, I noticed that my 3x great grandmother, Emma Taylor (nee Webb), died at The Albion on this day, 7th April 1894.

According to the various census returns, George and Emma lived at The Albion from around 1851 until 1887 when George died. Some time between 1887 and 1891, Emma moved into Ridley Cottage, a property in Herne Street, (1891 census and George Taylor's Will) but according to her death certificate she died at The Albion.

Kind Regards,

Sally Wood.

The 1851 census gave the address as Woodnams Hall, Albion Street, and George Taylors occupation as General Dealer and Beer House Keeper. The 1861 census gave him as aged 45 and a Wood Dealer etc. The 1871 census gave the name as the "Albion". Census of 1881 gave his occupation as a Farmer. George wasn't mentioned in the 1891 census as he had died on the 23rd of December, 1887, but his wife, Emma was and described as a widow aged 72 and occupation the Owner of House Property.

Emma did indeed die on the 7th of April 1894 at the "Albion House" whilst her daughter Alice A Holman was present at her death, although her age was given as 77.

From the Will of George Taylor 1888.

TAYLOR George. 13th March.

The Will of George Taylor late the "Albion House" Herne in the County of Kent, Farmer, who died 23 December 1887 at "Albion House" was proved at Canterbury by Emma Taylor of Ridley Cottage, Herne, Widow of the Relict on of the Executors.

Personal Estate, £135 12s. 6d.
