Roman Eagle painting 1841

Above painting, 1841. It is said St. Paul's can be seen through the arch.

The "Roman Eagle" Public House and Assembly Rooms was situated in Church Street, these meeting rooms would have been a popular venue with both locals and those passing through Deptford to London. Social gatherings such as dances and card games would have been held here as well as political meetings and business transactions. Church Street today is a busy dual carriageway and nothing remains of the 19th-century buildings. I believe the pub closed in 1841 and has since been demolished.
